The Fool On The Hill
Who's Fooling Whom?
Back in the day — seems odd to be saying that — there was a young lady who used to run a Beatles' site on the Internet. I don't remember her name, but I believe her site was called Capture The Moment
, and it was located at http://home.att.net/~liveletdie/, now apparently long gone and defunct.
Her specialty was capturing screen shots of The Beatles from their films, and she compiled quite a nice portfolio of still images.
She also wrote a very intriguing article concerning some tomfoolery that may have taken place in the video sequence for the song, "The Fool On The Hill," that appears in the movie, Magical Mystery Tour.
Actually, "tomfoolery" may be the wrong word. Perhaps, "paulfoolery" better describes what she was sure she saw in the movie.
The story goes that, as Paul dances and bounces down the hill in the video, the viewer may be shocked to see his "manhood" popping in and out from under his long overcoat.
She made a convincing argument, with close-up stills that did, indeed, look something like a penis.
Now, I'm no expert on other men's private parts, so I can't say for sure whether we're witnessing a bit of alleged exhibitionism or if what we're seeing is just Paul's shirt tail flopping out in a weird pattern.
I'll leave that up to you to decide ...
Here is the clip in question. I have freeze-framed the purported evidence in question for a few seconds:
I hope that the lady who wrote the original article is well and living the good life. Perhaps you know her, or perhaps she may pass by this little article. If so, drop me a line
I can't say that I was ever a big fan of the song, "The Fool On The Hill," and in the video, there are moments when Paul looks a bit like Sheldon from the television show Big Bang Theory.
At any rate, here's the entire video:
Magical Mystery Tour is available from Amazon in several formats:
